Editor’s Note: Shae Freeman kicks off this four-part series, “Creative Ways to Get Kids to Eat Fruits & Veggies,” offering advice about how to get the kids to eat the good stuff.
Part 1: Popeye Doesn’t Really Inspire Kids to Eat Spinach
Drinking Their Fruits and Vegetables
Most children have no issues with drinking juice all day long if you would allow it.
One way to use this to your advantage is by investing in a juicer or blender. With a juicer, your child can create their own juice concoctions with their favorite fruits and drink them, allowing their bodies to absorb all of the vitamins much faster than actually eating a piece of fruit.
There is something about watching a solid piece of fruit go in one side and get poured out the other end that is exciting to kids to where they will want to make (and drink) their creations. If you make larger pitchers of juice, you can throw in some carrots and even kale as neither one have an overbearing taste when mixed with fruit (I juice daily and use kale and I have never actually tasted a “juiced kale leaf”). A blender will make more of a smoothie than a juice, but if blended with the right fruits and vegetables, you may possibly have a child asking for smoothies on a regular basis!
